Substitute Bus Monitor

About the role

The Substitute Bus Monitor supports safe and orderly student transportation on school buses. Reporting to the Director of Transportation, the role ensures that students can fully benefit from the district’s academic and extracurricular programs by providing a secure travel environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in maintaining appropriate student conduct during trips.
• Inspect transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.
• Help young or disabled students board and alight safely.
• Ensure orderly boarding and exiting of all students.
• Document and forward any violations of the student code to the transportation supervisor and school principal.
• Collect and turn over personal items left on the bus to the school secretary.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively with children of various ages.
• Physical capability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 40 lb.
• Good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception).
• Willingness to follow safety procedures and assist students with special needs.
