Product Mechanical Design Engineer – Containerized Modular Products

About the role

We are seeking a Product Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and optimisation of containerised modular products such as data centres, telecom base stations and power modules. The role combines structural engineering, collaboration with electrical teams and support for certification and manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise structural components including sheet‑metal parts, frame structures, mounting brackets and protective enclosures.
• Work closely with electrical engineers on equipment layout, cable routing, connector placement and harness fixing.
• Produce 2D/3D drawings, exploded views and bills of materials, and manage documentation in PDM/PLM systems.
• Oversee prototyping and fabrication steps such as welding, bending, painting and assembly to ensure manufacturability.
• Validate structural reliability – IP protection, strength analysis, lifting and transportation integrity.
• Troubleshoot assembly issues like interference, insufficient strength or poor cable routing.
• Support certification efforts (UL, CE, ISO) and provide technical assistance for NPI, design changes and post‑release service.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Design, Mechatronics or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in structural design, preferably with containerised modular systems or industrial equipment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
• Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites and hold valid U.S. and Japan visas for short‑term assignments.
• Fluent English for technical documentation and daily communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SolidWorks, Creo and AutoCAD.
• Experience with PDM/PLM systems.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, steel frames and aluminium profile fabrication techniques.
• Basic understanding of electrical wiring design, cable routing and harness fixing.
• Familiarity with IP protection, EMI shielding, thermal and anti‑seismic design (plus).
• Awareness of container standards such as ISO 1496, UL 2755 or CSC certification.
• Experience with electrical design tools like EPLAN or Zuken (preferred).
