Maintenance Apprentice – School Facilities

About the role

The Maintenance Apprentice supports the Director of Maintenance in keeping the school campus safe, functional, and well‑maintained. This entry‑level position provides hands‑on experience across a wide range of building and grounds tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance inside and outside the plant, including ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, painting, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile, pump and fan repairs.
• Account for materials and labor on assigned work orders.
• Follow all state, local, and Board of Education safety and code requirements.
• Carry out district‑wide grounds work such as plowing, salting, field marking, and maintaining underground sprinkler systems.
• Recommend supplies and equipment, and help manage inventory of hand tools and materials.
• Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance procedures; write routine reports and correspondence.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lb regularly and up to 90 lb occasionally.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
