Grounds Worker – Immediate Opening

About the role

The school is seeking a Grounds Worker to maintain an attractive, safe, and natural outdoor environment for students. This full‑time position involves routine landscaping, seasonal snow removal, and basic equipment upkeep. Immediate opening.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and care for school grounds, including mowing lawns with push or power mowers.
• Prepare seed beds, plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubs, and experiment with different varieties.
• Prune trees, trim hedges, and apply fertilizers or chemicals as needed.
• Operate and maintain sprinkler systems, watering lawns and flower beds.
• Inspect plants for pests or disease and apply appropriate sprays or dusts.
• Repair and adjust equipment such as mowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears.
• Remove snow from sidewalks and driveways, spreading sand, salt, or ash to prevent slipping.
• Collect and dispose of leaves, refuse, and repair outdoor furniture.
• Perform assigned custodial duties during winter months and other tasks as directed.

Required profile

• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for the duties listed; alternatives may be accepted by the Board or superintendent.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, squat, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift frequently up to 50 lb (occasionally up to 90 lb).
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle caustic chemicals safely.
