Grounds Worker – Immediate Opening

About the role

The school is seeking a dedicated Grounds Worker to maintain a safe, attractive outdoor environment for students and staff. This full‑time position involves routine landscaping, seasonal snow removal, and basic custodial duties during winter months.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare seed beds, plant seeds, bulbs, trees, and shrubs to create an appealing landscape.
• Maintain lawns by mowing with push or power mowers, trimming hedges, and pruning trees.
• Operate and maintain sprinkler systems, ensuring proper irrigation of lawns and flower beds.
• Inspect plants for pests or disease and apply appropriate chemical treatments.
• Repair and adjust equipment such as mowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears.
• Remove snow from sidewalks and driveways, spreading sand, salt, or ash to prevent slipping.
• Collect and dispose of leaves, debris, and outdoor refuse.
• Perform minor repairs on outdoor furniture and assist with indoor custodial tasks during winter.

Required profile

• Demonstrated aptitude for physical, outdoor work and ability to follow safety procedures.
• Capability to lift up to 50 lb frequently and up to 90 lb occasionally.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle caustic chemicals safely.

Required skills

• Lawn mower operation (push and power).
• Sprinkler system maintenance and adjustment.
• Use of hedge shears and pruning tools.
• Application of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
• Snow shoveling and surface de‑icing techniques.
