Data Collection & Management Specialist

About the role

The Data Collection and Management Specialist will support the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) by gathering, validating, and maintaining high‑quality environmental data across the Congo Basin. The role contributes to REDD+ and Low Emissions Development (LED) frameworks, helping donor partners track forest carbon, deforestation drivers, and community‑based conservation outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement data collection protocols for forest monitoring, land‑use change, and payments for environmental services.
• Coordinate field teams and partner agencies to ensure timely and accurate data capture.
• Maintain databases, perform data cleaning, and produce regular data quality reports.
• Support the preparation of technical reports and dashboards for donors and national governments.
• Provide technical assistance to country teams on data management tools and standards.

Required profile

• University degree in environmental science, geography, forestry, or a related field.
• Experience working in multi‑country projects focused on forest monitoring or climate finance.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies and NGOs.

Required skills

• Proficiency in data collection methodologies for forest and land‑use monitoring.
• Experience with database management and data validation processes.
• Familiarity with REDD+ or LED frameworks and environmental reporting standards.
