Lead Design Engineer (Automotive Aftermarket)

About the role

We are launching a new automotive engineering business focused on high‑performance, CNC‑machined components for the aftermarket. As Lead Design Engineer you will work directly with the Director and GM to define, design, and develop our product range from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop performance‑oriented automotive components suitable for 4‑ and 5‑axis CNC machining.
• Collaborate with the Director on design and product decisions.
• Translate concepts into production‑ready, manufacturable parts.
• Iterate designs using real‑world testing and machining feedback.
• Consider tolerances, material choices, and machining constraints from the outset.
• Support validation, refinement, and continuous improvement of products.
• Help define internal standards for component design and development.

Required profile

• Solid grounding in mechanical engineering principles.
• 4–7 years of experience in a design/mechanical engineering role working with physical components and assemblies.
• Detail‑focused, methodical, and comfortable in a small, developing business.
• Enjoys collaboration, technical discussion, and improving how things work.

Required skills

• Strong CAD capability (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar).
• Reverse‑engineering experience from 3D scans or base components.
• Good understanding of CNC machining processes and constraints.
• Ability to design parts that are both functional and manufacturable.
