Site and Research Manager – Goualougo, Republic of Congo

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society seeks a dynamic Site and Research Manager to lead research activities, oversee camp operations, and build capacity among local staff at the Goualougo research site in Nouabalé‑Ndoki National Park.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise implementation of research protocols, coordinate fieldwork, and ensure high‑quality data collection on chimpanzees and gorillas.
• Train and mentor Congolese research staff in reduced‑impact ape follows, behavioral monitoring, and use of data collection tools such as SMART, Cybertracker, and the Animal Observer App.
• Manage site logistics, staff schedules, stock, and infrastructure maintenance, and oversee the collection, storage, and shipment of biological samples.
• Prepare monthly site reports, liaise with project directors, and represent the research team during tourist visits.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent extensive conservation field experience.
• Fluent in French and English (written and oral) with strong knowledge of animal behavior and ecology.
• Proven experience managing remote field sites, supervising staff, and handling project reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel and Word; working knowledge of GIS, SMART, and R.
• Field navigation skills using GPS and compass; experience with camera traps and wilderness first aid.
