Senior Medical Editor

About the role

The Senior Medical Editor leads the creation and strategic planning of scientific content for oncology, hematology and rare‑disease programs. Working remotely on a full‑time basis, the role collaborates with internal project teams and clients to deliver high‑quality medical communications and publication deliverables.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of slide decks, manuscripts, abstracts, meeting summaries, disease‑state and drug backgrounders.
• Proofread and edit materials to comply with in‑house, client and AMA style guidelines.
• Research and source relevant medical literature, monitor press releases and competitor publications.
• Summarise data into tables, PowerPoint slides and reports, and manage assignment timelines.
• Learn and apply Veeva and Medical‑Legal‑Regulatory (MLR) submission and review processes.
• Incorporate feedback from internal colleagues, clients, faculty and journal reviewers.
• Identify permission requirements for copyrighted content.
• Train and mentor junior medical writers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (nurses, pharmacists, surgeons, radiologists, transplant specialists).
• Recommend and implement strategic, non‑traditional programming solutions.
• Travel to live events and meetings as needed (approximately 5‑10%).

Required profile

• PhD or PharmD in a relevant life‑science field.
• 4‑7 years of experience in medical communications or a comparable setting.
• Deep knowledge of oncology, hematology and rare‑disease therapeutic areas.
• Proven ability to lead scientific strategy and mentor team members.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Veeva platform proficiency.
• Familiarity with AMA style guide.
• Advanced PowerPoint and data‑summarisation abilities.
• Experience with MLR submission and review processes.
