Peer Support Moderator (Part-Time, Remote)

About the role

Supportiv is looking for Peer Support Moderators to guide, facilitate and safeguard its 24/7 peer-to-peer small group chats. This is a part-time contractor role, fully remote and work from home, with no employee status or benefits. Moderators set their own flexible hours, all time zones are welcome, and they may be eligible for incentives based on time commitment and performance.

Pay starts at $15.50 per hour in the US, varying by state minimum wage; globally it varies by country. Candidates need a background in psychology, counseling, coaching, emotional health and wellness training, or similar fields, and should be able to lead conversations and communicate by text or chat.

Key responsibilities

• Guide, facilitate and safeguard the 24/7 peer-to-peer small group chats
• Provide judgment-free support on a wide range of topics
• Use reflective listening, validation, empathy and open-ended questioning
• Self-edit advice giving and armchair therapy, both strictly prohibited, and follow protocols
• Take part in ongoing training and use feedback to improve
• Suggest improvements for the moderator and chat participants' experience

Required profile

• Relevant education, work or volunteer experience in peer support, psychology, sociology, social work, teaching, nursing or similar
• Age 18+
• Strong reading and written English, including idioms, colloquialisms and slang
• Stable internet connection and tech savviness
• Passion for emotional health and mental wellness

Required skills

• Complete qualification assessments covering empathy, tone, active listening, unconscious bias, conflict de-escalation and mental health basics
• Pass paid training on rapport building, group facilitation, crisis protocols, troll detection, trauma-informed care and more
• Demonstrate mastery of moderating skills through exam and scenario testing
• Commitment of at least 5 moderating hours per week once hired
