About the role
The Substitute Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, field trips, and other authorized locations. This position operates within established routes and schedules while ensuring the well‑being of all passengers.
Key responsibilities
- Obey all traffic laws and mandatory school‑bus safety regulations.
- Maintain discipline on the bus and report any issues to the appropriate authority.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections, report mechanical problems, and perform routine maintenance such as refueling and tire checks.
- Load and unload students, including those using wheelchairs, and secure wheelchair equipment safely.
- Follow assigned routes, pick up and drop off students at authorized stops, and document mileage and passenger counts.
- Complete accident reports, safety drill documentation, and attend required training sessions.
- Keep the bus clean and enforce no‑smoking and no‑eating policies.
Required profile
- Valid driver’s license and a bus driver’s license.
- Ability to sit for long periods, use hands for vehicle controls, and repeat movements safely.
- Clear vision to see details at a distance.
- Willingness to work on a schedule that may include early mornings and occasional field trips.
